| "A Return of the Sun Celebration" was held at the
Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens. The evening provided
a glimpse of life in contemporary Russia, including a
presentation by a panel of experts discussing topics
ranging from nuclear disarmament to art and music. |

| Murmansk Committee Chair, Julie Buckingham visited
the Dental Hygiene School in Murmansk that was created
as part of a Dental Hygiene Program between Murmansk and
Jacksonville. |

| A medical delegation from Jacksonville visited
Murmanskfor nine days. The delegation presented a
conference on updated advanced laparoscopic surgery to
25 general surgeons. They also delivered $15,000.00 in
supplies and equipment, and provided video
presentations, discussions, and
demonstrations. Equipment and supplies were also donated
to the Dental Hygiene School. |

| The Murmansk Dental Project received international
recognition from Sister Cities International with its
“Award for Special Achievement in Public Health Safety”. |

| Two Murmansk legislators visited Jacksonvilleas part
of a national tour sponsored by the USIA and the
International Resource Center of Jacksonville (IRCJ).
The highlight of their itinerary included a briefing by
the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission's Cecil
Field Development Office discussing military
downsizing. JSCA President, Joan Brogan presented the
visitors with a Jacksonville Historical Coverlet. |

| A teacher and two doctors visited Jacksonville from
Murmansk. The teacher came through a teacher exchange
program coordinated by the JSCA Education Committee. Her
visit helped formalize the on-going teacher and student
exchanges with the Russian city. The Director of the
Regional Health Department and the head of the Murmansk
City Health Department explored the possibility of
twinning the nursing school in Murmansk with FCCJ's
Nursing School. |
